AAAOM’s Masters Degree Program in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine prepares graduates to competently use acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Tui Na and Oriental dietary therapy and the other healing modalities of traditional Chinese medicine to accurately diagnose and effectively treat patients. The program meets the standards required to allow students to successfully take the acupuncture, Chinese herbology, and Oriental medicine diplomate exams of the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
The total curriculum of 3150 hours (180 credits) includes 1710 hours of didactic instruction on acupuncture, herbs and Oriental medicine, 540 hours of bioscience-related material and 900 hours of clinical observation and experience. Within the curriculum, students may emphasize acupuncture, Chinese herbology, and/or Oriental medicine, and they may focus on one or more of areas of specialization in traditional Chinese internal medicine, such as gynecology, pediatrics, or dermatology. The program runs twelve trimesters, with fifteen weeks per trimester. The maximum time to program completion is eight years. Part-time study is allowed.
